Latham & Watkins Helps Launch Middle East Renewable Energy Forum (MEREF)

Latham & Watkins LLP¹ and BP Solar co-hosted the first meeting for MEREF, a non-profit member-led forum for companies committed to working together to develop the Middle East's renewable energy sector. Attended by 35 of the region's leading developers, financiers, advisors and investors, the launch meeting in Latham's Dubai office provided an opportunity to share ideas and to promote effective policies and best practices.

“This organization will allow Latham & Watkins and the other co-founders to take the lead in shaping the dynamic and rapidly growing renewable energy sector in the Middle East and North Africa through coordination among key players to educate policymakers and develop best practices, “ said Aaron Bielenberg, a Dubai-based associate at Latham & Watkins and founding member of MEREF.

MEREF's mission is to (i) establish a leading forum for organizations focused on renewable energy in the Middle East and North Africa, (ii) coordinate with stakeholders in the region to develop policy and regulatory frameworks to support renewable energy developments, and (iii) assist governments in the region to meet renewable energy targets and sustainability goals.
