In a survey published by Law360, Latham & Watkins’ Energy Industry Group was named as the largest among law firms. “A shift to an industry-based practice and growth in a key office have helped propel Latham & Watkins LLP’s energy practice to the top of the list of the country’s largest energy groups,” noted Law360. “Responding to client requests for representation organized around industry, Latham created a power industry group and an oil and gas industry group at the beginning of 2011. Both groups boast rosters of attorneys who work in a range of practice areas in offices around the world,” added Law360. In the survey coverage, the chairs of the energy practice noted that shifting to an industry group-based practice and opening an office in Houston has bolstered the firm’s ability to provide comprehensive service to clients with a sharp industry focus. In the coverage, Law360 highlights: “[T]he power group draws strength from Latham’s history of advising clients on transactions, regulatory issues, environmental issues and other matters. It has attorneys in nearly all of Latham’s offices, with major concentrations in New York, San Diego, Los Angeles, London and Washington. The oil and gas group is as diverse as its counterpart, with about 100 attorneys working overseas and a robust presence in the Middle East. It has one of the country’s premier master limited partnership practices.”
