New York Partner Jiyeon Lee-Lim recognized for significant contributions to the tax bar.

New York partner and Global Chair of Latham’s Tax Department Jiyeon Lee-Lim has been named a Tax Law Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. The honor recognizes leading lawyers who have made significant marks on the practice, policy, and technological advancements in tax law.

Lee-Lim, who is currently Vice Chair of the Tax Section of the New York State Bar Association and will serve as Chair next year, has distinguished herself as the go-to advisor in some of the most complicated cross-border tax issues that arise in corporate transactions and a leader both within the firm and broadly for the tax bar and development of tax law.

Her published profile highlighted Lee-Lim’s significant contributions to the tax bar, including spearheading a decade-long effort to streamline the definition of “public trading” for debt instruments by writing several reports to the IRS and Treasury, which led to the publication of new Treasury regulations on the topic. The regulations made it significantly easier to apply the tax rules to transactions involving debt, which was a substantial milestone in the taxation of financial instruments.

Focused on international and corporate tax, Lee-Lim has represented numerous financial institutions in connection with a wide range of financing transactions and debt and equity derivatives, and advised many investment managers in asset-backed securities offerings and other structured finance transactions. She has also represented numerous US and international corporations on private and registered securities offerings as well as corporate reorganizations and international tax planning, and advised sovereign investors and non-US institutions in connection with inbound investments into the United States.
