Asian-MENA Counsel has named partner Bryant Edwards and counsel John MacKay to its External Counsel of the Year list which identifies individual lawyers who “have been recognized as exceptional by in-house counsel.” The survey cites a number of characteristics which in-house counsel say make certain external counsel stand out. These qualities include: expertise, reputation, demonstrable added value, efficiency, responsiveness, legal and commercial acumen, market awareness, understanding, loyalty and approachability, and flexible attitudes, among others.

Selection to the prestigious list is based on votes and testimonials from in-house counsel across the region. Clients cited Edwards’ “excellent people skills” and his understanding of the “cultural sensitivities of clients in the region.” MacKay won praise, with one client noting that he is “the best private practice lawyer in Singapore for project finance transactions. His overall experience is almost unmatched.” He “blends practical business advice with top quality legal know-how.”
