Christoph Engeler is a counsel in the Hamburg office. Mr. Engeler practices in the firm’s Corporate Department, focusing on corporate and regulatory matters in the healthcare and life science industries. He has a wealth of experience advising domestic and international hospital and nursing home operators as well as financial investors in healthcare institutions on M&A transactions and restructurings. He further advises public authorities on privatizations of healthcare institutions and joint ventures. In the life science sector, Mr. Engeler advises German and foreign pharmaceuticals companies and manufacturers of medical devices on M&A transactions and German as well as EU regulatory matters, including clinical trials, manufacturing, marketing authorizations, distribution, promotion and marketing, vigilance and reimbursement.

Mr. Engeler joined the firm in the summer of 2002. He previously worked as an associate in the corporate department of a leading international law firm in New York from 2000 through 2002. On a secondment basis he worked in the legal department of Bankhaus Metzler, Frankfurt, Germany for three months.

Mr. Engeler is a regular author of articles on corporate and healthcare law topics.

  • Sana Kliniken AG regarding the acquisition of formerly state-owned hospitals in Elmshorn, Wedel and Pinneberg (Germany)
  • District of Hameln-Pyrmont on the partial privatization (49%) of district-owned hospital in Hameln (Germany) and sale to Sana Kliniken AG
  • District of Ohrekreis on the sale of district-owned hospitals (Haldensleben and Wolmirstedt, Germany) to Sana-Kliniken AG
  • Even Capital SA on the acquisition of a total of 17 nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Germany through various acquisitions
  • City of Hamburg in the privatization of the city’s nursing homes (“pflegen & wohnen”)
  • Eli Lilly on the acquisition of European rights to a portfolio of certain Pfizer Animal Health products including vaccines, parasiticides and feed additives, from Pfizer Inc.
  • Mediq N.V., an international provider of medical devices, pharmaceuticals and the associated care, in connection with the €95 million acquisition of the German ntegrated healthcare company assist GmbH and its affiliates from Sanventure AG
  • Beckman Coulter regarding the acquisition of the lab-based diagnostic division of a Japan-based manufacturer
  • Endosense, Spectranetics, TriVascular on German and EU medical device laws and regulations concerning medical devices, active implantable medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics
  • SHL Telemedizin GmbH on integrated care contracts
