PROFILE
Rene de Vera is a partner in the Chicago office of Latham & Watkins and is a member of the Tax Department. Rene's practice focuses on transactional tax matters, including advising:
- Domestic and international private and public companies in mergers, acquisitions, and carve-out transactions
- Issuers and underwriters in private and public securities offerings
- Multinational companies in domestic and cross-border tax planning
- Financial institutions and borrowers in bankruptcies and out-of-court restructurings
- Developers and financial institutions in tax equity financing of renewable energy projects
Prior to entering the practice of law, Rene cooked professionally in Chicago and worked as a management consultant with Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman).

- Consonance Capital Partners in its acquisition of Orsini Pharmaceutical Services
- Various Pritzker Family Business Interests, including the acquisition of KPB Investments, Hargray Communications and TMS International Corp.
- Hyatt Hotels in the sale of Hyatt Residential Group business
- Chaparral Energy in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization
- Shake Shack in its “Up-C”-structured initial public offering
- Illinois Tool Works in the sale of its Industrial Packaging segment to the Carlyle Group and its acquisition of the Engineered Fasteners and Components business of ZF TRW
- DE Shaw Renewable Investments in its acquisition and development of various renewable energy projects, including Balko and Block Island wind farms
