PROFILE
Emily R. Orman is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department. Emily serves on the firm’s Recruiting Committee and as the office co-leader of the Women Lawyers Group.
Emily practices in both federal and state court, and has experience representing public and private companies in complex commercial and securities litigation. Emily’s practice focuses on contract disputes, securities class actions, shareholder derivative litigation, government investigations, and bankruptcy litigation. Emily has experience in all aspects of civil litigation, including drafting complaints, answers, motions, and other briefs, assisting in taking and defending depositions, preparing witnesses for direct and cross-examination, assisting with fact and expert discovery, participating in settlement negotiations, and preparing for trial.
Emily maintains an active pro bono practice, and has successfully represented a detainee seeking reversal of the denial of his asylum claims in the Ninth Circuit and release on bond, an exonerated individual who was wrongfully incarcerated in partnership with the Northern California Innocence Project, and immigrants applying for citizenship under the Violence Against Women Act. Emily currently represents an individual in an ongoing Section 1983 action in Louisiana.
While attending Yale Law School, Emily was a member of the Capital Punishment Clinic, and assisted her team in obtaining a favorable ruling from the US Supreme Court. She also served as a research assistant to Professor Miriam Gohara, and a member of the Title IX Working Group.

- Ultimate Fighting Championship in a certified class action brought by fighters
- An online learning platform in a data privacy action
- A data storage company in successfully obtaining a preliminary injunction restricting the client’s competitor from violating a restrictive land covenant
- Winning complete defense judgment for Oracle directors and officers in one of the largest acquisitions to face a stockholder challenge through trial
- PG&E in derivative lawsuits related to the 2017 and 2018 northern California wildfires
- Joint Liquidators of a prominent crypto hedge fund with billions of dollars in assets previously under management
- A major automotive dealer in various state regulatory actions, successfully defending against suspension and revocation of dealer’s license
- A biopharmaceutical company in an action alleging breaches of contract against former employee defendants
- A major retail company in response to civil investigative demands from the FTC and DOJ
- French pharmaceutical technology developer in trade secrets litigation in US and French court, resulting in dismissal of claims
- Winning complete dismissal on behalf of a data storage public company in federal securities class action arising out of its IPO
