PROFILE
David Shin is an associate in the Tokyo office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Finance Department.
His practice focuses on project development and finance as well as other project-related transactions, particularly in the power, renewables, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
David joined the firm in 2019 from another leading international law firm.

David’s representative experience includes :
- Chandra Asri Refinery Facility Acquisition, Singapore: Advising Chandra Asri Group in connection with the acquisition of refinery facilities, an ethylene cracker and downstream chemical assets in Singapore
- Barossa LNG Project, Australia: Advising the ECAs and commercial bank lenders on the proposed financing of SK E&S’s 37.5% share of the Barossa LNG gas field
- Ichthys LNG Project Refinancing, Australia: Advising the ECAs and a consortium of commercial bank lenders on the US$8.3 billion refinancing for the Ichthys LNG project in Australia, including the due diligence of underlying project documentation relating to the project facilities and ancillary infrastructure facilities
- Pengerang Petrochemical Project, Malaysia: Advising the project company on the development and financing of an aromatics complex, including a fully integrated condensate splitter and aromatics plant, in Pengerang, Johor, Malaysia
- Balikpapan Refinery Expansion Project, Indonesia: Advising PT Pertamina (Persero) on the development and trustee borrower scheme (TBS) structured financing in connection with the US$25 million upgrade and expansion of the Balikpapan Refinery under Indonesia’s Refinery Development Master Plan
- Petrochemical Plant Project, US: Advising the Export-Import Bank of Korea on the term loan financing in connection with the construction of a petrochemical plant in the United States*
- Coal-fired Power Plant Project, Kosovo: Advising the sponsor on a project development of a coal-fired power plant in Kosovo*
- Refinery Project, Bahrain: Advising the sponsor on a project financing of a refinery in Bahrain*
- Gas-fired Power Plant, UK: Advising the lenders on a project financing of a gas-fired power plant in England*
- Offshore Windfarm Sale, UK: Advising the seller on a disposal of all of its interest in an offshore windfarm project in England*
- Waste-to-Energy Project, UK: Advising the lenders on a holdco financing relating to an energy from waste facility in England*
- Biofuel Plant Project, Ireland: Advising the sponsor on the project development and construction of a 16.7MWe virgin biomass CHP plant, drying facility, and biofuel production plant in Ireland*
- Combined Cycle Power Plant Project, Jamaica: Advising the sponsors and the borrower on the project financing (in secured credit facility and secured indexed bonds) of a c.190MW combined cycle gas turbine power station in Jamaica*
- The Export-Import Bank of Korea as borrower in connection with an AU$880 million term loan facility
- The sponsors on an amendment to a term loan facility for Hongkong United Ascend Limited, an electronic component and hardware company, to refinance existing debt
- The lenders on a term loan facility for Alvogen Emerging Markets Holding Limited, a pharmaceutical company focused on developing, manufacturing, and selling generic, brand, OTC, and biosimilar products
- The sponsors in relation to refinancing of existing senior debt of an electricity distribution company, with a mixture of term, bond, institutional, and private placement debt*
- A bank in relation to a sale of a portfolio of derivatives linked to 114 project finance transactions*
