PROFILE

Irina Vasile is an associate in the Data & Technology Transactions Practice of Latham’s London office.

Irina advises global clients on data protection and security matters, consumer protection laws, and digital platform regulations.

Irina's practice focuses on digital services, e-commerce, over-the-top communication services, advertising, complex contractual arrangements, international data transfers, employee monitoring, and product counselling. She also has significant experience advising on privacy implications in M&A and restructuring transactions.

Irina gained her professional experience working in private practice, as well as in-house for Meta (formerly Facebook) and Oracle. Since joining Latham, she has completed a product counselling secondment at WhatsApp advising on global legal issues related to privacy, consumer protection, telecommunications, and competition.

EXPERIENCE

Irina's experience includes advising:

  • A multinational technology company during a CMA investigation regarding potentially misleading consumer practices, including by drafting regulatory submissions, attending meetings with the CMA and negotiating undertakings on behalf of the client
  • Meta on various data protection and consumer protection matters
  • Global clients on the launch of new features / services, including with respect to the terms of service entered into with consumers
  • Clients from the retail industry which are in the IPO process on adequately presenting the risks resulting from consumer protection requirements 
  • Over-the-top communication providers on EU and UK regulations, including in relation to the processing of communications content, traffic and location data and security measures
  • Clients across various industry sectors on complex data sharing arrangements and requirements for international data transfers
  • Intuit on its acquisition of Mailchimp and subsequently assisting with the integration phase from a privacy perspective
  • A digital health group on consumer protection and data protection implications related to its administration and sale, including the change in service provider and data controller
  • The underwriters on privacy aspects in connection with the IPO of Amer Sports, a global group of iconic sports and outdoor brands
  • The underwriters on privacy matters in connection with the IPO of a leading information-content and technology company
  • A major financial institution on data privacy matters regarding its digital banking products and call center activities*
