Firm Receives Pro Bono Leadership Award
Texas Appleseed, a public interest justice center, has recognized Latham with its Pro Bono Leadership Award for being “an indispensable partner during a tumultuous year for so many Texans.” In 2020, our Texas-based lawyers volunteered more than 1,600 hours on over 10 projects for the nonprofit.
Over the last five years, lawyers in our Houston office have taken on 25 matters for Texas Appleseed. This work includes combatting youth homelessness, assessing education equity in light of the COVID-19 remote learning environment, and researching the extent to which judges in Texas have the authority to administer the proceeds of criminal fines, fees, and bail they’ve imposed on criminal defendants.
As a result of our ongoing collaboration with Texas Appleseed, we have been able to take on an array of matters that both deepen our connections to the Houston community and help ensure equity and fairness throughout the state,” said associate Michelle Synhorst. “We want to sincerely thank Texas Appleseed for this award as well as for everything this organization does in the service of social, economic, and racial justice justice.”
