Latham Ranked Among Antitrust’s Global Elite for Thirteenth Consecutive Year

January 5, 2021
Firm’s renowned competition group is again honored by Global Competition Review for unmatched strength across the antitrust gamut.

For more than a decade, leading antitrust publication Global Competition Review (GCR) has placed Latham’s Antitrust & Competition Practice as among the “Global Elite,” a special report that “spotlights competition practices that carry out notable work on multiple continents.” The Global Elite is part of the publication’s annual GCR 100, a “comprehensive listing of the world’s top competition practices, which for twenty plus years has provided a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the law firms and economic consultancies doing the most important antitrust work around the world.” Latham’s practice – one of the globe’s largest by headcount and geographic footprint – has been ranked among the prestigious Global Elite for thirteen consecutive years, since GCR first launched its definitive report on the world’s leading competition groups.

In addition to describing Latham as having “an exceptional litigation practice, which we rank as the fourth best in the world,” GCR’s 2021 report paid homage to the firm’s expansive reach – with concentrations of lawyers on the US West Coast and the East, and growing teams in London, the European Union and beyond. Also spotlighted was the group’s top-notch merger control practice – which saw Latham take on a number of novel matters including “one of the most complex mergers from an antitrust perspective in recent years” as well as three of the four biggest deals by value in 2020. GCR’s profile on the group rounded out with a nod to the firm’s cartel enforcement and investigations prowess, citing a busy year handling high-profile appeals against competition authority decisions, among other matters.

Amanda Reeves, Global Chair of the firm’s antitrust group, commented, “To be selected as among the very best every year GCR has published its Global Elite listing is an honor, and speaks to our team’s unmatched strength, our consistency of excellence, and our balanced offering that enables us to handle any and all of our client’s most challenging antitrust matters in jurisdictions around the world. Our showing is particularly satisfying knowing that GCR develops its rankings based on market feedback from our peers, enforcement agencies, academics, economists, and clients. You won’t find a group of lawyers more passionate about antitrust and we consider it a privilege to do this work and to lead the field forward.”

Also included in the 2021 GCR 100 report are the publication’s ranking of practices in key antitrust jurisdictions. Latham’s geographic rankings are as follows:
