Counsel Named 2023 Latino Leader Worth Watching

Counsel Marcela Ruenes has been named among Profiles in Diversity Journal’s 2023 Latino Leaders Worth Watching. The award recognizes exceptional individuals who are “confident, determined, high-performing, purpose-driven professionals who create value for their coworkers, customers, community, and of course the organizations where they contribute their talents.”

Ms. Ruenes is a member of the Finance Department and Banking and Latin American Practices, representing a range of domestic and cross-border finance transactions, such as leveraged financings and acquisition financings, unitranche financings, special situations lending, and investment grade loans.

Alongside her commercial practice, Ms. Ruenes maintains an active pro bono practice, focusing on immigration and asylum matters, including representing victims of domestic violence in obtaining protection under the Violence Against Women Act. She currently serves on the Mentoring Committee, and has served on the Diversity Leadership Committee, as Global Leader of Latham’s Hispanic/Latin American Lawyers Group, and on the Recruiting Committee. She is also a sought-after speaker, including addressing diversity-related topics at area law schools, including her alma mater, Columbia.
