Latham and Andreessen Horowitz Honored for Best Provider Collaboration

A partnership between Latham & Watkins and client Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has been honored as the Best Provider Collaboration of 2023 at The American Lawyer Industry Awards. Led by Ghaith Mahmood and Justin Tzeng, Latham worked with Miles Jennings (General Counsel, Crypto) and others at a16z to develop a set of open source licenses called the “Can’t Be Evil NFT Licenses” for use with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) associated with some kind of media. The licenses transparently codify the rights of NFT creators, buyers, and sellers so that every party has a common understanding of the IP rights associated with owning media-related NFTs.

According to The American Lawyer, the annual Industry Awards recognize legal initiatives that have “put their stamp on the legal industry, the profession, and our society in the past year,” and the Best Collaboration category spotlights “providers coming together to apply their particular capabilities and jointly solve a problem or create better value through their collective offerings.”
