For their inaugural list, Forbes selected top legal practitioners who demonstrated outsize influence and have achieved an elite level of excellence in private practice, civil rights, and organizational work.

Five Latham & Watkins partners were named by Forbes as among America’s Top 200 Lawyers, chosen for their advocacy and leadership, and for inspiring change. Celebrated during the Forbes Top 200 reception in New York were Global Chair of Latham’s White Collar Defense & Investigations Practice Kevin Chambers, partner Robert Ellison, Global Chair of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department Michele Johnson, Chair of Latham’s Entertainment, Sports & Media Industry Group Marvin Putnam, and Managing Partner of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office Amanda Reeves.

Forbes’ inaugural list honors top practitioners and change agents in the legal field, including “lawyers with stellar track records in their specialties, those who have broken barriers to emerge as leaders in their fields, and attorneys most respected by peers and clients.”

The list was compiled by Forbes using a multi-stage process, which involved reviewing outside nominations and conducting independent research on each of the candidates. Lawyers were evaluated on a wide range of criteria including reputation, industry honors, influence on the legal landscape, advocacy performance, commitment to diversity, and pro bono work. The final list was compiled by an editorial team with extensive experience in the legal marketplace, and features a diverse group of lawyers who, according to Forbes, have “demonstrated outsize influence and have achieved an elite level of excellence in private practice, civil rights and organizational work.”
