Firm honored in a record seven categories, including winners for Litigation Departments of the Year and Distinguished Leader.

Latham’s Boston office has been recognized in seven categories in Law.com’s New England Legal Awards, which celebrate professional excellence within the legal community in Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. The firm and its lawyers have been named winners in three categories and as a finalist in four, to be presented at a ceremony in September.

Latham’s three winners and seven total recognitions were the most of any firm.

The firm and its lawyers were recognized as winners in the following categories:

  • New England Business Litigation Department of the Year and New England Commercial Litigation Department of the Year, having delivered significant wins for a range of clients spanning across industries, practices, and jurisdictions, including for Massachusetts-based clients such as Frequency Therapeutics Inc. and Desktop Metal, among others.
  • Boston partner Hans Brigham, Global Vice Chair of the firm’s Corporate Department, as Distinguished Leader for his pivotal role in establishing and leading Latham's Boston office and guiding several high-profile transactions in the New England Market. As Latham’s Boston office long-serving managing partner, from 2015 to 2023, Brigham was instrumental in the office's impressive growth, expanding headcount from initially under 30 lawyers to more than 140 today.

Latham and its lawyers were also recognized as finalists in the following categories:

  • New England General Litigation Department of the Year for a banner year of successes for clients in all aspects of litigation across sectors.
  • Litigation & Trial partner Charles Sanders for Social Impact based on his longstanding commitment to pro bono as well as his unwavering support of Project Citizenship, a nonprofit organization that helps immigrants and asylees secure permanent citizenship in the US.
  • Partner David Tolley, Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Boston Litigation & Trial Department, for Partner of the Year for his work leading the rapidly growing team, which has doubled in size across multiple practice groups since he took over, as well as his nationally recognized work for healthcare and life sciences clients.
  • Corporate partner Sarah Gagan for Intellectual Property Attorney of the Year for representing clients, including emerging companies, established private and public companies, and private equity funds on IP matters in dozens of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, complex licensing arrangements, strategic alliances, and technology transfers, as well as day-to-day IP issues that arise at every stage of the corporate life cycle.
