Latham Advises Coinbase on VASP Registration in the United Kingdom
Latham has advised Coinbase, a secure online platform for buying, selling, transferring, and storing cryptocurrency, on obtaining its Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registration in the United Kingdom.
Issued by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), registration will allow Coinbase to offer both crypto and fiat in the UK, the largest of Coinbase’s international markets, as the company secures another regulatory permission. This VASP registration makes Coinbase the largest registered digital assets player in the UK.
The Latham team was led by London partner Stuart Davis, Co-Chair of Latham’s Fintech Industry Group, with London and Hong Kong associate Sam Maxson, and London associates Emma Trankeenan, Lauren Chapple, Ivan Pizeta, and Ema Uncovska. Advice was also provided on commercial matters by London partner Christian McDermott, with associate Tim Neo.
