International Arbitration Team Wins Most Important Decision at 2025 GAR Awards
Latham’s International Arbitration Practice was honored at the 15th annual Global Arbitration Review (GAR) Awards, taking home the Most Important Decision award for successfully persuading the UK Supreme Court in April 2024 to uphold an earlier landmark ruling from the Court of Appeal — two critical victories secured for client UniCredit. In January 2024, the English Court of Appeal held for the first time that the English Courts have jurisdiction to grant final mandatory anti-suit relief to restrain proceedings commenced in breach of an arbitration agreement seated outside England and Wales. The UK Supreme Court agreed with Latham’s arguments and ultimately upheld the anti-suit injunction restraining RusChemAlliance LLC from pursuing litigation in Russia against UniCredit in breach of a Paris-seated ICC arbitration agreement.
The Latham team for UniCredit, both before the UK Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, was led by partner Charles Claypoole, Of Counsel Fernando Mantilla-Serrano, and associates Alex Cox, Michelle Taylor, and Aris Adamantopoulos.
Latham was also a GAR Award finalist in the Latin America Practice That Impressed category. Importantly, honorees for the GAR Awards are selected directly by members of the global arbitration community. GAR editors solicit submissions to identify the year's most innovative work and outstanding individuals, choosing a group of finalists in each category. Winners are then determined through a public vote.
