Global Antitrust & Competition Practice Earns Top Rankings Across Multiple Categories in Latest GCR 100 Report
For the eleventh consecutive year, leading antitrust publication Global Competition Review (GCR) has named the Latham & Watkins Antitrust & Competition Practice among its Global Elite as part of its annual GCR 100 report. In addition to recognizing Latham as among the very best in the world for antitrust broadly, GCR ranked Latham fourth in the Litigation category and sixth in the Merger category.
“The 2019 edition of the GCR 100 is a comprehensive listing of top competition practices, providing a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the law firms and economic consultancies doing the most important antitrust work around the world,” GCR noted. Each year, GCR’s editorial staff research and compile the report, which covers more than 300 firms from every continent. GCR considers the report “the most thorough ranking of competition groups anywhere.”
Latham has ranked among the Global Elite every year the report has been published. The Global Elite designation “highlights the achievement of maintaining top-notch teams across jurisdictions.” To be considered, firms must regularly perform on the biggest stages on the biggest matters and illustrate stability, longevity, as well as an ability to attract and retain top talent. Rival practices are also given the opportunity to vote on which firms should be included.
In the GCR 100 Litigation category, Latham is listed fourth in the world, with GCR writing that 2018 was “another top-notch year” for the firm. In the Mergers category, Latham continued its streak of climbing the rankings, rising this year to the sixth spot globally. GCR noted: “with the third-largest number of deals pulled and refiled or taken to Phase II, and tied for third-largest number then remedied and third-largest number advised in the US, the EU and China, Latham & Watkins’ appearance in this top 10 is no surprise.”
Additionally, Latham achieved high honors in the various regional competition bar surveys included as part of the GCR 100 report. Notably, and in recognition of the firm’s strategic moves to build out and enhance its New York antitrust capabilities, Latham made its debut on GCR’s New York competition rankings. Other jurisdictions in which Latham was celebrated for its top-tier competition capabilities locally include California (ranked Elite) and Brussels (named Outstanding).
