Asian Legal Business Honors Latham for Influential Deal Work
Latham & Watkins’ Asia Practice and Singapore partner Sharon Lau have earned recognition for steering notable transactions in Southeast Asia at Asian Legal Business’ 15th Annual SE Asia Law Awards 2019. Asian Legal Business cited Latham’s role advising on the honored matters in the Equity Markets Deal of the Year and the Debt Markets Deal of the Year categories. The leading publication also selected Lau as Dealmaker of the Year.
The honored matters reflect Latham’s involvement in many of the largest and most complex equity and debt securities offerings in Asia. For example, Latham advised on the US$1.4 billion initial public offering of the Thailand Future Fund — named Asian Legal Business’ Premium Equity Markets Deal of the Year. The transaction marks the largest IPO in Thailand since 2015. Latham also advised Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited in connection with the establishment of a new S$5 billion Medium Term Note Programme — which won the award for Premium Debt Markets Deal of the Year.
Lau, who also serves as a Global Vice Chair of the firm’s Corporate Department, earned the prestigious Dealmaker of the Year distinction for her work on notable corporate finance and M&A transactions in 2018. For example, she advised Vinhomes on both its US$1.35 billion initial equity offering — the largest-ever equity issuance in Vietnam — and its related investment from GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund. She also represented TPG Capital Asia in its acquisition of Quest Laboratories and Gribbles Pathology (M) Sdn Bhd in Singapore and Malaysia from Healthscope Ltd.
Latham leverages the experience of lawyers based in its offices across Asia to navigate transactions and disputes on behalf of clients doing business in the region. Notably, the firm’s Asia team has also recently earned recognition from Asian-mena Counsel, IJGlobal, IFLR, and China Business Law Journal for advising on a range of intricate and precedent-setting deals.
