Bankruptcy and Corporate Partners Named Among 2012 “Top 100 Lawyers in California”

Two Latham & Watkins partners, Peter Gilhuly and Charles Ruck, have been selected as 2012 “Top 100 Lawyers in California” by the Daily Journal for their work on bankruptcy and mergers and acquisitions matters, respectively.

Gilhuly, a finance partner in Los Angeles who manages the firm’s west coast insolvency practice, was acknowledged for his work across various business sectors, including recent work for entertainment, technology, legal and industrial clients. Gilhuly’s profile noted that “being a bankruptcy lawyer means playing more than one role,” as he often counsels clients on the bankruptcy process as well as the practical business implications of those legal options. 

Ruck, a corporate partner in Orange County, was recognized for leading several multi-billion dollar M&A transactions, such as Watson Pharmaceuticals’ $5.9 billion acquisition of Actavis Group, a cross-border deal that creates the 3rd largest global generic drug company. In the coverage, Ruck said, “Getting the deal done came down to being able to ‘read the tea leaves and understand what would motivate the players to find a compromise.’”
