Boston Partner Honored by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly

Spencer Ricks, a partner in Latham’s Boston office, was recognized as an Up & Coming Lawyer by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly at the publication’s “Excellence in the Law” program. The publication characterizes recipients of this award as “the rising stars of the field – Massachusetts attorneys who have been members of the bar for 10 years or less, but who have already distinguished themselves.”

Ricks’s practice focuses on advising entrepreneurs, start-ups, and emerging companies in the technology, life sciences, and energy sectors from formation through all stages of growth and beyond, as well as representing mature companies in strategic investments and commercial collaborations.

In Ricks’s published profile by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, he discusses what makes a really good lawyer, saying that lawyers serve as “more than just a knowledgeable resource or skilled technician” rather, they are “able to take difficult concepts and situations and distill them down into simple, actionable solutions for clients.” He also reflects on the most important thing he’s learned since he started practicing law, noting, “I have learned to become comfortable with being uncomfortable” because, in his practice there is often no “clear answer or precedent.” He has therefore come to “enjoy the challenge of providing practical advice (or seeking the assistance of others)” in these circumstances.
