Boston Team Wins Top Litigation Department of the Year Honors
In their first ever New England Legal Awards contest, Law.com selected Latham & Watkins as its 2023 General Litigation Department of the Year winner, and its 2023 Business Litigation Department of the Year honoree. As previously announced, Latham’s Boston office earned several accolades across multiple legal disciplines. Partner BJ Trach, a fixture in the New England legal market and nationally, earned Law.com’s 2023 Distinguished Leader award.
Launched this year, Law.com’s New England Legal Awards celebrates “professional excellence in law in Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.” Latham’s Boston team earned the recognition for delivering one of its most impressive years to date, scoring several high-profile and precedent-setting victories on behalf of some of the world's most recognizable brands in disputes stretching across industries, geographies, practice areas, and specialties.
Significant victories for the Boston-based team include Latham’s representation of:
- Pharmaceutical giant Mallinckrodt in its successful cross-border Chapter 11 restructuring and subsequent wins in a number of appeals;
- Peloton in a number of high-profile disputes spanning multiple disciplines, including IP, securities, and putative class actions;
- Lands’ End in a putative class action filed by employees of a major airline who brought personal injury claims related to new uniforms; and
- General Electric, Boston’s largest public company.
David Tolley, Chair of Latham’s Boston Litigation & Trial Department commented, “Our elite litigation team has been on a years-long streak of effectively resolving our clients most complex disputes, securing decisions that set precedent and make history. One of our group’s hallmarks is the ability to deliver the complete legal package for clients, not only here in New England but also linked into the vast Latham network of market-leading practitioners around the world. We’re thrilled to be the first disputes team honored as General Litigation Department of the Year at the New England Legal Awards, and to have set the standard for what it takes to be a true litigation destination in the region.”
