Chicago Office Managing Partner Named Midwest Trailblazer
The American Lawyer has recognized Chicago Office Managing Partner Cathy Birkeland in its inaugural Midwest Trailblazers report, which honors lawyers who have moved the needle in the legal industry and are viewed as agents of change.
In a profile article published by The American Lawyer, Birkeland, former Global Co-Chair of Latham’s Capital Markets Practice, discusses how she recognized immediately the need to partner with her clients to help write the way forward when faced with the unprecedented challenges brought on by the coronavirus pandemic and no existing roadmap. She explained that “the strategies we developed for our clients will serve as the foundation of a new way of thinking about capital markets transactions.”
In addition to serving as Chicago Office Managing Partner, Birkeland helps issuers, underwriters, and investors execute successful capital markets transactions, and advises public companies and boards of directors on corporate governance and securities law matters. She also dedicates significant time to mentoring junior lawyers and passionately supports Latham’s commitment to diversity. Birkeland previously served on the firm’s Global Diversity Leadership Committee and helped found Latham’s annual Women’s Leadership Academy.
