Firm Extends 16-Year Streak on GCR’s Ranking of World’s Most Elite Antitrust Teams
For the 16th consecutive year, Latham’s Antitrust & Competition Practice has earned the coveted Global Elite ranking from leading antitrust publication, Global Competition Review (GCR). Described as a “comprehensive, annual listing of the world’s best competition practices,” the firm has appeared on GCR’s ranking every year since its inception. The Global Elite designation is reserved for “firms that maintain excellent multi-jurisdictional competition teams” and only a small percentage of those who meet that standard are ultimately named to the annual report.
Notably, Latham is one of only two firms to have earned a top three ranking across each category: merger control, cartel, non-cartel, and private litigation. GCR wrote: “Latham & Watkins continues to strengthen and expand its antitrust practice,” adding that the firm’s top three ranking among all categories underscores “the competition group’s almost unparalleled breadth and quality.”

GCR’s report highlighted Latham’s continued expansion of the practice, which has grown to more than 200 lawyers worldwide. Among the team, 16 served previously as senior competition enforcers, including recent additions Christos Malamataris (European Commission), Simon Pritchard (Office of Fair Trading, a predecessor of the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority), Carles Esteva Mosso (European Commission), Makan Delrahim, (US Department of Justice), and Ian Conner (US Federal Trade Commission).
Drilling down, GCR noted that Latham “advised on 18 deals that were reviewed in Phase II or were pulled and refiled during our research window — which is more than any other firm” and described the firm’s “impressive recent work” in cartel and non-cartel matters as “equally strong.”
Reflective of the firm’s strengths across the globe, GCR honored Latham with impressive regional rankings in critical competition jurisdictions: California and Paris were once again named to the publication’s highest designation — Elite; Brussels and Washington, D.C. were ranked Outstanding; and Germany, New York, Spain, and the UK earned the Highly Recommended tier.
