Corporate Partner Wins Pro Bono Award
New York corporate partner John Giouroukakis has been honored as one of New York Law Journal’s “Lawyers Who Lead by Example.” The award recognizes his robust pro bono practice and longtime leadership of the firm’s New York Pro Bono Committee. Latham’s New York office boasts the firm’s largest pro bono program, with more than 350 lawyers and staff participating each year.
Giouroukakis
currently serves as the supervisor of, and participant in, the New York
office’s award-winning asylum practice, which over the decades has represented
hundreds of asylum seekers fleeing persecution in their homelands based on
political views, religion, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. He has also
been a longtime contributor to Latham’s relationship with Appleseed, a
nonprofit organization that uncovers and corrects social injustices through
legal, legislative and market-based structural reform. Recently he helped lead
a team of Latham lawyers from across the country on a comprehensive update to
one of the nonprofit’s signature immigration court reform documents, which has
been widely distributed to key stakeholders within the immigration court
system.
