Latham Named 2021 Massachusetts Regional Powerhouse
Law360 honored Latham & Watkins in their annual Massachusetts Regional Powerhouse series for “dominating the Massachusetts legal world” by securing big wins for clients across a range of practice groups. The recognition comes on the Boston office’s 10th anniversary where, despite an uncertain and challenging year, the office has shown no sign of slowing down. As the only firm not headquartered in Massachusetts to make the list, Hans Brigham, Boston Office Managing Partner, pins the firm’s success in the region on coming in and recruiting “top-notch practitioners” in areas essential to Boston’s legal market.
The published profile highlights a variety of Massachusetts’ most transformative corporate transactions such as steering local biotechnology leaders, Momenta Pharmaceuticals and Boston Scientific, through billions of dollars in deals. Latham also worked with some of the region’s most exciting startups including the alcohol-delivery company, Drizly, which was founded by a Boston College alum, through its pending US$1.1 billion acquisition by Uber Technologies. In addition, the Latham team represented clients on a number of capital markets transactions including SQZ Biotechnologies' initial public offering.
Latham’s Boston-based litigators, who rank among the best in the market, also had a successful year despite the Zoom courtroom. Law360 recognized Latham’s representation of defendants in the high-profile “Varsity Blues” college testing and admissions case as well as Latham’s representation of General Electric in multiple securities lawsuits and a SEC settlement.
Law360 also highlighted Latham’s Boston-based pro bono efforts including representation of “asylum seekers, children in family court, and prisoners seeking compassionate release.”
