Latham Named Best Firm for Pro Bono in the UK
Law.com announced that Latham & Watkins has topped the publication’s annual ranking of the Best Law Firms for Pro Bono in the UK. Among the many signature pro bono programs led by Latham’s London office are the Windrush Initiative with the Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit, through which the firm advises individuals impacted by the Windrush scandal, and helping found the Domestic Abuse Response Alliance. In addition, London colleagues maintain longstanding relationships with nonprofits such as Cancer Research UK, the world’s largest independent cancer research organization, and Save the Children, which helps children in need around the globe.
In announcing the 2024 ranking, Law.com noted Latham’s involvement in an influential report by Surviving Economic Abuse, which found that 750,000 women in the UK suffer from joint-mortgage-enabled economic abuse by their current or former partners. The ranking was determined based on total number of pro bono hours worked, as well as firmwide participation rates.
Laura Atkinson-Hope, Director of Global Pro Bono and Public Service Counsel at Latham, said that, “Over the last decade, we have focused on partnering with dedicated nonprofits and charities in England to address the increasing access to justice needs we see in the communities where we live and work. We are so proud of the contributions of each our colleagues in London to these projects, and are honored to have received this recognition.”
