Latham & Watkins was recognized by Variety in its annual Legal Impact Report, which spotlights top “showbiz attorneys [that] are well-equipped to make award-winning wins for their clients.” In the 2024 Legal Impact Report, dealmakers Justin Hamill, Kendall Johnson, and Rick Offsay and litigators Marvin Putnam and Dixon Carvalho Anderson, were featured for their exceptional work in entertainment, sports, and media.
Hamill, Global Co-Chair of Latham’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice, is recognized for overseeing transformational deals in entertainment and sports, including the landmark US$21 billion UFC and WWE merger on behalf of Endeavor Group Holdings in 2023, a deal that Offsay also contributed.
Offsay, who serves as the Global Co-Chair of the Entertainment, Sports & Media Practice, has been instrumental in structuring transactions that maximize opportunities for clients. His recent work includes representing Media Res in a growth equity investment by Jeff Zucker’s RedBird IMI, closing Carlyle’s US$800 million financing deal with Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s Park Country, and advising the Houston Rockets and Astros in acquiring AT&T SportsNet Southwest, that re-launched as Space City Home Network.
Johnson, a partner in Latham’s Century City office, is lauded for guiding Blumhouse in acquiring Atomic Monster, representing MGM in subscriber migration and content licensing arrangements with Lionsgate+ in Europe, Latin America, and the UK, and aiding RedBird Capital in forming EverPass Media, a joint effort with the NFL.
Putnam, Global Chair of the Entertainment, Sports & Media Industry Group, is recognized for his litigation prowess, including a significant win in a breach-of-implied-contract dispute involving client Endeavor’s US$10 billion IPO and serving as trial counsel for First Access Entertainment in a wrongful death lawsuit arising from rapper Lil Peep’s death. His commitment to the industry extends to his work for PEN America to combat book banning.
