Latham Recognized for Investigations Excellence by Global Investigations Review
Latham’s White Collar Defense & Investigations Practice has once again been recognized by Global Investigations Review, as part of its annual awards program celebrating the firms and people behind the past year’s most significant investigations and court cases. The firm has been named a finalist for Most Impressive Investigations Practice of the Year and Los Angeles partner Manny Abascal is a finalist for Investigations Professional of the Year.
In its announcement, GIR recognized Latham’s investigations prowess by highlighting the firm’s work on high-profile matters from the last year. Among the matters GIR highlighted, a team led by partners Doug Yatter, Ben Naftalis, and Eric Volkman represented Binance founder Changpeng Zhao in securing a favorable plea deal for failing to implement an effective anti-money laundering program as well as a related CFTC resolution; Ben, along with partner Erin Brown Jones, also negotiated a deferred prosecution agreement for Tysers Insurance Brokers in an FCPA matter; and another significant achievement was the rare declination secured for Lifecore Biomedical from the US Department of Justice, led by Investigations Professional of the Year finalist Manny Abascal. GIR noted that Manny helped Lifecore revamp its compliance program, which allowed the company to receive a declination after Lifecore self-reported FCPA violations by a recently acquired subsidiary in Mexico.
