Five recognitions across a diverse range of disciplines reflect the firm’s continued achievements at the leading edge of legal practice and technology.

Two Latham & Watkins partners have been honored among five total recognitions for the firm in the annual Financial Times Innovative Lawyers — North America awards (FTIL-NA). Joshua Tinkelman, a New York finance partner and former Global Co-Chair of the Private Equity Finance Practice, was named a Standout/Winner in the Using Data category, and Andy Gass, a Bay Area litigation partner and Global Co-Chair of the firm’s Artificial Intelligence Task Force, was featured as a Top Ten Legal Practitioner. The firm also earned commendations in three categories for transactional and litigation practice work and technology-based firm initiatives.

The firm was honored as follows:

  • Standout/Winner in the Using Data category: Finance partner Joshua Tinkelman, for developing a sophisticated database that consolidates and shares banking and private equity finance deal terms firmwide, significantly enhancing institutional knowledge and client service.
  • Top Ten Notable Legal Practitioners: Litigation & Trial partner Andy Gass, cited as one of the most sought-after experts in IP and antitrust law, particularly for his “work identifying the likely legal challenges facing clients in the AI field [that] has established Latham & Watkins as a ‘destination firm’ for defending and solving disputes.”
  • Highly Commended in the Dispute Resolution category: A Supreme Court & Appellate Practice team, led by partner Roman Martinez, for securing the landmark US Supreme Court decision for client Relentless Inc. overruling the Chevron doctrine, which had required courts to defer to Executive Branch agencies when resolving the meaning of ambiguous statutes.
  • Highly Commended in the Technology Sector category: A Capital Markets Practice team, led by partners Tony Richmond, Sarah Axtell, and Rick Kline, for their work advising Reddit in its landmark US$748 million initial public offering in March 2024. The IPO involved navigating multiple novel legal issues to achieve its goals, including introducing a new revenue stream that involves licensing data to major AI players and infusing a community-focused approach to the deal structure and marketing activities.
  • Commended in the AI Strategy category: The firm’s Innovation Attorneys Team, which is dedicated to integrating technologies and AI across all facets of Latham’s client service delivery, driving transformation from the cutting edge to ensure the firm continues to implement best-in-class technologies that are practical and user-friendly.
