Latham Secures Unconditional European Commission Clearance for Iberdrola and BP Joint Venture
Latham & Watkins has successfully secured an unconditional clearance for Iberdrola, a leader player in renewable energy, from the European Commission (EC) for the formation of its joint venture (JV) with BP.
The JV aims to develop a public network of electric vehicle high-speed charging stations throughout the Iberian Peninsula significantly contributing to the objectives of the European Union’s (EU) Fit for 55 package and national green targets. The decision will be key for e-mobility and electrification policies in the EU. During the investigation, the EC conducted an exhaustive quantitative and qualitative analysis to fully understand nascent markets and develop a robust and complete framework that could serve as reference for future cases.
The Latham team was led by Brussels partner Javier Ruiz Calzado, with Madrid associate Carlos Betoret and Brussels associates Álvaro López and Almudena Chiesa.
