Latham Team Wins Pro Bono Team of the Year Award

Kids In Need of Defense (KIND) has honored a team from Latham & Watkins with its Pro Bono Team of the Year award for Northern Virginia. KIND praised the firm’s “exceptional contributions to KIND cases,” including taking on the challenge of representing five siblings ages 10 to 16 from Afghanistan in their asylum applications. As a result of the team’s compassionate representation and advocacy, all five were granted asylum status earlier this year and will now be able to live safely in the US with permanent status. KIND praised the Latham team’s “brilliantly articulated novel arguments and memoranda.”

Led by Washington, D.C. partner Joseph Hudzik and counsel Ruchi Gill, the team included Washington, D.C. associates Ragad Alfaraidy, Anna Dykema, Faiza Hasan, Victor Razon, Kimon Triantafyllou, and Yanyan Yang.

Latham has worked with KIND for more than 15 years. In fact, the firm was KIND’s top firm for pro bono hours in 2023.
