Firm Wins Indonesia International Law Firm of the Year Award
Latham & Watkins was named Indonesia International Law Firm of the Year at the 2016 Chambers & Partners Asia Awards. The award recognizes the firm’s continued strength in Indonesia across both corporate and finance practices, including a number of landmark transactions over the year: the Sarulla Geothermal Power Project, Donggi-Senoro LNG Project, PT Sampoerna Hanjaya Mandala’s Rp20.3 trillion (US$1.4 billion) secondary share sale and PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk’s S$1.88 billion (US$1.45 billion) reverse takeover of United Fiber Systems.
The firm’s Indonesia Practice has been advising clients on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, bank and project finance, restructuring, and energy and natural resources deals in the region for over 20 years, and remains the market leader for international companies undertaking complex and significant transactions in the country. Having advised on more than 200 transactions to date, with a combined value of more than US$100 billion Latham has maintained its positioning as the ‘go-to’ firm for high value, complex and multi-jurisdictional transactions involving Indonesia. Latham has been ranked by Chambers & Partners as a Band 1 advisor in the country for over a decade, and counts partners Clarinda Tjia-Dharmadi, Michael Sturrock and Joseph Bevash as individual lawyers who hold Band 1 rankings for their work in Indonesia.
Singapore partner Clarinda Tjia-Dharmadi acknowledged the recognition by Chambers & Partners, noting the “importance of the Indonesia Practice as part of the firm’s strategy in Asia”, and attributing the firm’s success to “its solid track record navigating the ever evolving Indonesian legal landscape and continued hard work handling headline mandates.” Singapore partner and Vice Chair of the global Corporate Department Michael Sturrock said: “Latham continues to lead the way in Indonesia and will continue to build on its strong Indonesian practice in the years to come.”
