Latin Lawyer Recognizes Latham for Advising on Two Deals of the Year
Latin Lawyer, a leading source of news, analysis, and research for the Latin America regional legal community, has honored Latham for advising on two Deal of the Year winners at its 16th annual awards ceremony held in São Paulo.
Latham was recognized for advising on:
- Project Finance Infrastructure Deal of the Year – Metro de Lima Linea 2: Latham advised the sponsors in the US$811 million financing of Line 2 of the Lima-Callao Metro System in Peru, a major rail line within the Lima metro underground railway system that will ease traffic congestion and represents one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects. The project refinancing consisted of a sale and purchase facility and a syndicated credit facility backed by the Italian export credit agency SACE S.p.A. in connection with the securitization of Peruvian government-backed payment rights known as "RPI-CAOs."
- Restructuring Deal of the Year – Avianca: Latham served as counsel to Colombian holding company Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores, Citibank, and GE Capital Aviation Services (now AerCap) in connection with Latin American airline Avianca’s restructuring of approximately US$4.9 billion in funded debt. The restructuring settled several issues between the Avianca debtors and Grupo Aval on mutually beneficial terms. It involved a number of Grupo Aval affiliated entities located in several jurisdictions and required an understanding of a complex web of agreements, largely related to the financing of airline credit card receivables.
In 2022, Latham also received honors from LatinFinance, Proximo, and IJGlobal for our role advising on the region’s largest, most sophisticated, and precedent-setting business transactions across industries and practice categories.
