Latham Named to "Best Law Firms for UK Pro Bono" List
Legal Week has named Latham to its top 10 list of “Best Law Firms for UK Pro Bono,” citing several initiatives undertaken by our London office. Firms were evaluated on six metrics, among them the total number of pro bono hours worked in the United Kingdom, as well as the percentage of lawyers doing pro bono. More than 80 percent of lawyers in our London office worked on pro bono matters over the last financial year, logging over 8,000 more hours than the previous year.
The publication singled out the firm’s pioneering name change clinic with Mermaids, the first of its kind in the UK. This clinic helps transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming youth with questions regarding changing their legal names; it’s led by lawyers from our LGBTQ+ Lawyers Group, an associate-led, firmwide affinity group for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies. In addition, we were recognized for the many engagements we undertook with Save the Children, including significant work in response to the devastating 2020 port blast in Beirut.
In a challenging, complicated year, more than 80 percent of our London lawyers made the time for pro bono, a testament to the importance of giving back to our firm culture. Pro bono is a part of who we are at Latham,” said Matthew Schneider, London partner and member of our Pro Bono Committee. “We are very proud to be recognized by Legal Week, and commend all the firms for their dedication and commitment to public service in our community.”
