Litigation & Trial Partner Honored as a Rising Star in White Collar Law
White Collar Defense & Investigations partner Alex Wyman was selected by Bloomberg Law to be featured in its “They’ve Got Next: White Collar” series, highlighting five young lawyers who are “raising the bar” in the white collar law. The series celebrates lawyers with a track record of success in significant matters, the respect of their colleagues, strong leadership skills, novel ways of thinking about their legal practice, and support for and participation in diversity and inclusion efforts.
In his profile article, Wyman was honored for a number of high profile prosecutions during his five-year tenure as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California. The profile describes Wyman’s “claim to fame” as successfully prosecuting a complex insurance fraud and murder prosecution in US v. Elmezayen. It resulted in across-the-board guilty verdicts following a three-week jury trial and a 212-year prison sentence, the maximum allowable by law, against a man who murdered his children for insurance money. He went on to earn the 2021 Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney – Criminal, one of the highest awards available to federal prosecutors.
Latham partner Manny Abascal, who was also a federal prosecutor in Los Angeles, told Bloomberg Law, “Alex really has it all,” and praised his “deep courtroom experience, criminal, investigative, and civil litigation chops and experience, both from the US Attorney’s Office and at a prior firm, and an outstanding reputation in the legal community.”
