M&A Practice Again Earns “Group of the Year” Recognition
In another demonstration of the market-leading advice provided to clients in major transactions by Latham & Watkins, Law360 named the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice a “Group of the Year” for the fourth consecutive year.
New York partner David Allinson, global Co-chair of the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice, told Law360 that “by utilizing the firm's global capabilities and knowing the ins and outs of clients’ various industries … Latham is able to tackle complicated deals requiring a lot of intricate work and maintain its position as an elite M&A practice group.” He added, “Latham very much focuses on bringing that expertise and doing it in a way that keeps an eye on value for the client and making sure the client gets the deal done, and done well.”
Latham earned praise for its leadership in record-setting M&A matters, such as representing Allergan Inc. in both its “monster” US$73 billion acquisition by Actavis and the sale of the company’s global generic pharmaceuticals business to Teva Pharmaceuticals, a complex cross-border carve-out. Latham also advised Avago Technologies in its US$37 billion acquisition of Broadcom Corp., the largest semiconductor transaction in history.
The publication called the latest honor “well-deserved for a group that ranked second in M&A deal value and third-highest in deal count in the U.S. in 2015, according to rankings put together by Thomson Reuters” and that “on a global basis … was a top-tier M&A firm last year, with $748 billion worth of deals, according to Dealogic.” Overall, the practice remained at the forefront of global and regional league tables for 2015, earning recognitions across categories and industry sector rankings.
