Litigation & Trial Partner Named Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Trailblazer

The National Law Journal (NLJ) has named Washington, D.C. partner Jennifer Archie to its Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Trailblazers list featuring individuals, "who have helped make a difference in the fight against criminal cyberactivity and towards adding much needed layers of data security in an increasingly digital world of commerce."

Archie, who is part of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department, was recognized for her pioneering work on spam law, privacy and data security. Having helped serve as counsel to AOL in the late 1990s and early 2000s, her work has addressed novel questions, such as whether spam laws infringe on First Amendment rights. Archie helped draft several crucial aspects of spam law, including felony and key provisions of CAN-SPAM, and state anti-spam laws. She notes, “we achieved more than paper judgments. We actually collected millions of dollars and seized cars, gold bars and other property from defendant, and changed the law in many important ways.” When Archie looks to the future, she sees the role of governments expanding in setting and enforcing standards on how to prevent, detect and respond to hacks and leaks.
