South Asian Bar Association Honors Abid R. Qureshi With Community Leader Award at Its 14th Annual Public Interest Benefit Gala
D.C. partner and Global Recruiting Committee Chair Abid R. Qureshi was recognized by the South Asian Bar Association of DC (SABA-DC) as its 2022 Community Leader award recipient. This notable award honors an individual who has demonstrated strong support for SABA-DC, its members, and the South Asian community through pro bono work and community engagement.
As an experienced trial lawyer, Qureshi focuses on complex commercial litigation matters, serving as lead counsel in numerous trials before federal and state courts throughout the country.
While dedicating time and producing successful results for Latham clients, Qureshi has also made it a priority to support underrepresented communities. While serving as both Co-Chair of the D.C. office Litigation Department and Global Chair of Latham’s Pro Bono Committee, Latham has been able to provide more than 200,000 hours of free legal services annually. Qureshi has a long history of providing free legal advice to the Muslim Alliance and an immigrants’ right group, and received the Servant of Justice Award from the D.C. Legal Aid Society and the Impact Award from the Capital Area Muslim Bar Association in recognition of those efforts.
Recruiting, retaining, and promoting the best talent, including individuals from underrepresented backgrounds is essential to Latham and its mission. Dedicated to the cause, Qureshi has made it a priority to build a more diverse legal community. Under his leadership as Chair of the Global Recruiting Committee, the firm has had its most diverse summer class in firm history, doubled the 2L diversity scholarship amount from $25,000 to $50,000, significantly increased the number of diversity scholarship award recipients, launched seven virtual experience programs to the level the playing field for underrepresented students, and partnered with The Appellate Project, and other organizations, to create opportunities for law students of color.
