Three New York Partners Named Notable Women in Law by Crain’s

New York partners Dana Fleischman, Andrea Schwartzman, and Lisa Watts have been named to the Crain’s New York Business list of Notable Women in Law for 2020. The annual list recognizes women with distinguished careers who demonstrate exemplary leadership skills and a deep commitment to civic, philanthropic, and mentoring activities.

Dana Fleischman, member of the firm’s Capital Markets and Financial Regulatory Practices, focuses on matters involving the regulation of broker-dealers and securities markets and advises clients on a wide range of corporate and regulatory compliance matters. Fleischman serves as counsel to SIFMA, as well as nearly every major financial institution. She also counsels securities firms and trade associations with respect to significant regulatory initiatives and rule-making proposals and has been instrumental in obtaining no-action relief, exemptive orders and interpretive guidance from various regulatory bodies and self-regulatory organizations on behalf of both US and non-US based clients. Fleischman is a member of the ABA’s Federal Securities Regulation Committee, current Chair of the ABA’s FINRA Subcommittee, former Chair of the ABA’s Trading and Markets Subcommittee, and a member of SIFMA’s Compliance and Legal Division. She was part of the Latham team that represented Spotify in its groundbreaking direct listing and the financial advisers in Slack’s direct listing.

Andrea Schwartzman, Global Chair of the firm’s Investment Funds Practice, advises private fund sponsors and asset managers on the structuring and formation of private investment funds. Schwartzman also regularly advises sponsors and principals on a wide variety of corporate matters involving private funds, including fund operational matters, internal sponsor arrangements, the structuring of portfolio company investments and exits, joint ventures, and strategic transactions, including the acquisition of investment managers. She has significant experience advising on cross-border transactions involving private funds and investors throughout the world, including Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. As part of her practice, Schwartzman also advises sponsors on internal operational matters and general regulatory compliance under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and the Investment Company Act of 1940. Schwartzman was recently named a Law360 2019 Fund Formation MVP.

Lisa Watts, member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Tax Practice, advises clients on corporate and partnership taxation. Watts brings more than two decades of experience with complex transactional tax issues to her work advising clients. She regularly serves private equity firms, US-based and foreign public and private companies, REITs and UPREITs, partnerships and limited liability companies, as well as investment banks. Watts helps clients navigate the tax aspects of significant US and cross-border transactions, including: mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures; joint ventures; recapitalizations; public financings, including initial public offerings; and corporate restructurings. She was recognized as a Law360 2019 Tax MVP for guiding Virgin Galactic through a $1.5 billion merger with Social Capital Hedosophia that created the first publicly traded commercial human spaceflight company.
