Three Partners Named Top Women in Dealmaking

The Deal recognizes Alex Kelly, Rachel Sheridan, and Caroline Reckler for their exceptional professional achievements in M&A, private equity, and restructuring and commitment to mentorship, advancing gender diversity, and thought leadership.

Partners Alex Kelly, Rachel Sheridan, and Caroline Reckler have been named to The Deal’s Top Women in Dealmaking list for 2020 in the M&A, private equity, and restructuring categories, respectively. The list recognizes exemplary women in the legal profession who have displayed excellence in their respective fields, but also in mentorship, advancing gender diversity, and thought leadership.

  • Alex Kelly, member of Latham’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Practices, advises clients on acquisitions, dispositions, carve-outs, joint ventures, controlling and minority investments, and general corporate matters. She represents numerous private equity firms, financial institutions, and public and private companies across a wide range of industries. In 2020, she advised DXC Technology, an IT services and solutions company, on the sale of its US state and local health and human services business to Veritas Capital for US$5 billion and the pending sale of its healthcare software provider business to Dedalus Group for US$525 million. She also advised a number of clients in the asset management space, including representing Onex Corporation in its acquisition of Falcon Investment Advisors, PIMCO in its acquisition of Allianz Real Estate, and Azimut Group in its proposed acquisition of Sanctuary Wealth.   • Rachel Sheridan, member of the firm’s Private Equity and Capital Markets Practices, represents private equity firms and portfolio companies in sophisticated buyout, acquisition and exit financing transactions. She also focuses on capital markets transactions, including public and private securities offerings, securities regulation, company representation, and general corporate matters. Sheridan has been at the forefront of highly active areas of the market, including special purpose acquisition (SPAC) deals. She represented Talkspace in its merger with Hudson Executive Investment Corp., a SPAC, to form the only publicly traded pure play virtual behavioral health company; Opendoor in its business combination with the Social Capital Hedosophia SPAC to bring public a leading digital platform for residential real estate; and alternative asset manager GCM Grosvenor in its merger with SPAC CF Finance Acquisition to take the company public. Also in the last year Sheridan represented Lemonade, the Israel-founded insurance company powered by artificial intelligence and behavioral economics, in its IPO, the second-ever public benefit corporation IPO.   • Caroline Reckler, member of the firm’s Restructuring & Special Situations Practice, advises public and private companies in financial distress and purchasers of distressed companies. She is regularly at the helm of significant engagements, including representing Alta Mesa Resources, an oil and gas company, in their Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases; GNC Holdings, the leading global health and wellness brand, in their Chapter 11 reorganization; Sable Permian Resources, an independent oil and gas exploration and production company with reserves in the Permian Basin of West Texas, in their restructuring; Hexion Inc., a privately held global chemical company, in the restructuring of their US$4 billion debt load; and the global oilfield services company Calfrac Well Services Corp. in their cross-border Chapter 15 case. Reckler serves as Chair of the firm's Chicago Finance Department, and she is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy.
