Trio of Latham Leaders Honored Among Chicago’s Top Trial Lawyers
For a year of stellar litigation results and for their significant contributions as leaders within Latham & Watkins and the Chicago community more broadly, partners Mary Rose Alexander, Sean Berkowitz, and Eric Swibel were honored among the Crain’s Chicago Business Notable Litigators and Trial Attorneys list.
Crain’s editors chose among Chicago’s most elite litigators, ultimately selecting lawyers who “fought headline-making courtroom battles” in “complex, high-stakes” disputes. Honorees were also selected for achievements beyond their commercial practices, who “epitomize the Latin phrase pro bono – ‘for the public good.’”

She has a considerable track record of success defending against multi-state, multi-plaintiff litigation, particularly with energy, manufacturing, and chemical company clients.
Global Chair of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation Practice, Sean Berkowitz is one of the country’s most renowned trial attorneys and litigators, having resolved cases at or before trial in a variety of disciplines, including securities fraud, antitrust, deceptive business practices, and complex commercial litigation. A Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, he has successfully tried more than 30 cases to verdict.
Co-Chair of Latham’s Litigation & Trial Department in the Chicago office, Eric Swibel is respected trial attorney who leverages his extensive experience representing large public companies and leading financial services firms to advise clients on all aspects of investigations and litigation, including business implications, sensitive whistleblower matters, and privilege. Complementing his business work, Mr. Swibel has an active pro bono practice, representing clients in investigations and litigation involving various issues, including protection of constitutional rights.
