Alima Laminu is an associate in the Finance Department of the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Structured Finance Practice.

Alima focuses on structured finance and securitization, with a particular emphasis on matters relating to asset-backed securities backed by a wide variety of assets, including multi-country trade receivables, SME loans, unsecured consumer loans, auto loans, and residential and commercial mortgages.

Prior to joining Latham, Alima trained in the London office of an international firm and joined Latham following qualification. 

Alima was previously seconded to Goldman Sachs supporting its securitization and structured finance businesses.

Alima’s recent experience includes advising:

  • The originator and sponsor in relation to multiple Reg S issuances of notes backed by portfolios of Irish mortgage loans
  • The arranger, sponsor, and risk retention holder on a public securitization of a portfolio of UK STS RMBS backed by first-charge, high-LTV owner-occupied mortgages
  • The originator and sponsor in relation to a public 144A issuance of notes by Avon Finance No. 3 PLC and backed by a portfolio of approx. £600,000 UK owner-occupied and buy-to-let mortgage loans
  • The arranger and joint lead managers on a publicly rated securitization of loans to UK SMEs originated on the Funding Circle platform (SBOLT 2024-1)
  • A global shipping company in connection with a global trade receivables securitization
  • A UK fintech startup on a warehouse facility to finance the origination of a portfolio of consumer hire receivables used to finance mobile phone handsets
  • Goldman Sachs on its US$150 million receivables securitization for Splitit, a buy now, pay later provider
  • Goldman Sachs on its proposed purchase of a €3 billion portfolio of Spanish residential mortgage loans known as Project Prometeo
  • On behalf of a leading international bank in connection with a number of UK and South African auto-loan and lease securitizations 
  • A financial institution as lender in connection with an amendment to a private financing of consumer loans originated by Resurs Bank AB
