Caleb O'Quinn is an associate in the New York office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department and the IP Litigation Practice.

Caleb supports the firm’s IP Litigation Practice Group, focusing on patent controversy matters. He has experience across industries, including technology, energy and clean-tech, and automotive. 

Caleb is a registered Patent Practitioner with the US Patent and Trademark Office. He leverages this experience to provide legal counsel to clients, including advice on patent and trade secret litigation, as well as risk analysis and developing models to minimize copyright and other legal risk exposures.

Caleb maintains an active pro bono practice, including working with the ACLU in a police brutality case in Vermont.  

Caleb earned his JD from Harvard Law School where he served as part of the print and digest staff for the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology. While in law school, he represented clients through the Berkman Klein Center Cyberlaw Clinic. 

Prior to attending law school, Caleb received his BS in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Oklahoma State University, where he graduated summa cum laude.

Caleb has represented clients on IP matters, including:

  • Analyzing existing patents for potential infringement defenses for a client to launch a new biomedical device
  • Analyzing potential infringement claims on a voice recognition software for a client to file suit
  • Investigating the liability of an electric car battery manufacturer accused of misusing a car manufacturer's trade secrets
