David L. Shapiro

David Shapiro retired from the partnership in August 2017. He represented clients in real estate, mergers and acquisitions, and financing transactions, particularly in the hospitality, gaming, and healthcare industries.

These transactions included real estate acquisitions and dispositions of hotels, nursing homes, hospitals, casinos, sites for riverboat gaming and retail developments, and various other properties; syndicated hotel joint ventures and other joint ventures; management arrangements; leasing and development of Harrah's Joliet, Illinois Riverboat and various Bass Pro Shop developments.

David's M&A and private equity transactions involved acquisitions, dispositions, and investments in nursing home, therapy, pharmacy, and other healthcare-related businesses, hotel and gaming businesses, telecommunications, and other businesses.

David's finance transactions principally included representing both borrowers and lenders in secured and unsecured bank financings, CMBS financings, high yield bonds secured by casino and other real property assets, and real estate workouts.

From 2000 until 2006, David was the Managing Partner of the Tokyo office of Latham & Watkins. During his time in Japan he represented US and European companies doing business in Japan, as well as Japanese clients in transactions in the US.

David was a member of the adjunct faculty of Northwestern University School of Law where he taught a course in structuring transactions.
