James Redway

Retired Partner

James Redway retired from the partnership in December 2009. In addition to 14 years experience in New York, James practiced as a New York lawyer in Moscow, Taipei and Singapore. In recent years, James was active principally in Indonesia, but he also has extensive experience in transactions in Thailand, Taiwan, Russia and the former Soviet Union as well as the People's Republic of China.

James speaks Chinese (Mandarin) and Russian.

James has extensive experience representing debtors, creditors and steering/creditors committees in both sovereign and private sector financial restructurings, as well as opportunity funds and purchasers of distressed debt, in a broad range of industry sectors in both litigious and consensual work-outs. He also has extensive experience with derivatives claims and claims arising from accounting and other regulatory issues. James was recognized as a leading lawyer in Global Counsel's Restructuring and Insolvency Handbook of 2002/2003.

James acted for sponsors, contractors and credit providers in structuring and financing power generation and telecommunications projects, hard minerals and oil and gas developments as well as equipment finance.

James' mergers and acquisitions practice focused on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and emerging markets privatization transactions. He has extensive experience acting for both issuers and underwriters in debt capital markets transactions, including those involving a variety of structured products.
