John Shyer retired from the partnership in May 2016. John was the Co-Chair of the firm’s Employment Law Practice and member of the Benefits & Compensation Practice.
John regularly counseled clients on all aspects of employment law, including recruitment, disciplinary matters, terminations, reorganizations, mass layoffs, plant closings, wage and hour compliance, and restrictive covenants. He has represented clients as defendants in legal actions alleging race, sex, national origin, disability and age discrimination, breach of contract, and wrongful termination, filed with administrative agencies and federal and state courts. His diverse clients have spanned numerous industries, including financial services, insurance, real estate management, technology, broadcasting, newspaper publishing, pharmaceuticals, food manufacturing, fashion, textiles, and toys. In addition, John regularly advised non-US clients with respect to employment law issues affecting their US operations.
John has been a member of the New York City Bar Association and the Federal Bar Council. He has also served on the Board of Editorial Advisors of The Employment Law Strategist, for which he has written regularly on developing topics in employment law. In addition, John has served as a trustee of the Princeton Broadcasting Service, Inc., the radio station of Princeton University, and has previously served on the Board of Visitors of Stanford Law School.
