Everett (Kip) C. Johnson, Jr. retired from the partnership in July 2022. He is former Chair of the Washington, D.C. Litigation & Trial Department and served as Latham's General Counsel, with 30 years of civil and criminal litigation experience at both the trial and appellate level. He has practiced extensively in the areas of corporate governance and compliance and has handled, as lead trial counsel, numerous trials before federal and state courts throughout the country. In addition, Everett has successfully handled both trials and appeals in regulatory takings cases in the Court of Federal Claims and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has extensive experience handling administrative and regulatory disputes as well as Department of Justice and Congressional investigations.

Everett has frequently advised company Boards of Directors in connection with shareholder and derivative matters and has represented a broad range of public and private companies, including Fannie Mae, America Online, HCA, Booz Allen Hamilton, and The Carlyle Group including representing directors in shareholder derivative claims. He also has extensive experience working with company counsel in advising boards.
