Mark E. Newell

Retired Partner

Mark Newell retired from the partnership in December 2011.  Prior to his retirement, Mark served as the Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Partner from 2002 to 2011 and worked in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. He was a member of the firm’s Executive Committee from 1999 to 2011, and he served as the Managing Partner of the Washington, D.C. office from 1993 to 2000.

Mark's practice centered on complex business litigation, with a particular focus on insurance coverage, tort, environmental, and appellate matters. He represented Ford Motor Company, Siemens Corporation, 3M Company and other major companies in litigation matters.

Prior to entering the practice of law, Mark served as a law clerk to Justice Lewis F. Powell, Jr. of the US Supreme Court, 1982-1983, and to Judge Malcolm R. Wilkey of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, 1981-1982.
