Russell Mangas is a litigation and trial associate in the Chicago office of Latham & Watkins, and a member of Latham's Complex Commercial Litigation Practice.

Russell represents fintech, real restate, and mining and minerals companies, as well as investment banks and commercial manufacturing and service providers on litigation involving:

  • Commercial fraud
  • Product liability
  • Real estate, leasing, and construction
  • Accounts receivable management
  • Trade secret misappropriation
  • Securities and merger litigation
  • Contract disputes
  • Employment disputes

Russell is active in the firm's pro bono program, successfully representing clients in federal criminal appeals and on habeas petitions. He is currently assisting with impact litigation under the Americans with Disabilities Act to ensure that disabled students receive the support to which they are entitled at school.

Prior to joining Latham, Russell was an associate in the Chicago office of another leading law firm.

  • A leading financial services technology company in successfully prosecuting and settling a trade secret misappropriation claim against a former employee
  • A Fortune 100 financial services company in obtaining the complete dismissal of conspiracy and aiding and abetting claims related to loans the company had made to a Ponzi scheme
  • A global-leading metals and mining company and its directors and officers in achieving a favorable settlement of a class action lawsuit that alleged breach of fiduciary duty claims against the directors and officers related to the company’s acquisition by a private foreign company
  • The managing partner of a leading hedge fund against defamation claims
  • A private equity firm in achieving a temporary restraining order that prevented the former owners of an acquired operating company from looting the assets of the company
  • A leading, international dairy-food manufacturer in achieving a total victory in defense of false advertising allegations made against the company
  • A Canadian salon chain in obtaining a favorable settlement against former employees who breached non-compete agreements
  • A multi-billion dollar containerboard manufacturer in achieving successful settlement of an antitrust class-action in the Northern District of Illinois
  • A private equity partnership in recovering millions in damages caused by the seller’s fraud in Delaware
  • A financial institution in its defense of TILA and FTCA claims brought by the Federal Trade Commission
  • Multiple pro bono clients as lead counsel:
    • Appealed and argued three criminal appeals to the Seventh Circuit and achieved a reversal of a criminal sentence in a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme conviction
    • Won a complete arbitration award for an individual civil plaintiff in a tort claim
    • Achieved successful settlement of an individual civil plaintiff’s tort and contract claims
